25th Annual Gingerbread House Contest and Show

Become a contestant in the 25th Annual Gingerbread House Contest and Show at Darnall's Chance House Museum! Enter one of three categories for a chance to win cash prizes. Register by Friday, November 8, 2024. Entries are due to the museum on Sunday, November 24, 2023. The Gingerbread House Contest and Show will run November 29 - December 10, 2023. Adult Division: Individual adult, age 17 years & up Child Division: Individual child, age 8-16 years Family Division: Group of 3-7 individuals of any age (1 adult/1 child minimum) Adult Division Prizes: 1st Place - $100 2nd Place - $75 3rd Place - $50 Child & Family Division Prizes 1st Place - $75 2nd Place - $50 3rd Place - $25 All entries are also eligible for The Viewer's Choice Awards which will be awarded to one adult entry, one child entry & one family entry. Winners are selected by viewer voting and each winning entry will receive a $325 check.

All-Comers Cross Country Meet

The All-Comers Cross Country Meet is a high-quality event with professional-quality timing for runners to actively assess their ability and have a place to compete. Race officials will assess which runners will make up the best heats. When necessary, and with a lot of attendees, we will have kids' heats. Typically, this meet draws participants over 5 years old, high school and college athletes, and road racers of all ages

Runners will have the opportunity to compete in one of the following distance races: 800 meter, 1 mile, 2 mile OR 3 mile.

Knox Engler is a multi-instrumentalist based in Washington DC. With over 20 years of performance experience, Knox is a musical force who devotes immense passion and relentless work ethic to his craft. Knox launched his music career in 2014 when he began playing in a variety of bands that performed everything from Classic Rock, to Jazz and even some original Progressive Rock and Metal music. Knox has performed at some of the premier music venues on the East Coast including The Cats Cradle, The Bowery Electric and many more.

The JoGo Project

The JoGo Project is a WAMMIE Award-winning jazz and go-go band from Washington, D.C., founded in 2014 by Elijah Jamal Balbed, who performed with Chuck Brown, "the Godfather of Go-Go," during the last year of Brown's life. A few years later, Balbed decided to start a band to continue Brown's legacy and bring the jazz and go-go worlds together, and the Jogo Project was born. Ten years on, JoGo remains dedicated to keeping go-go music alive while also exploring new sounds and repertoire.

Mindful Creations: Ceramics for Mental Wellness

Relax, enjoy yourself, and have fun with clay! Enjoy an introduction to working with clay, view sample clay projects, and build a clay sculpture of your very own to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week. Working with clay has been shown to alleviate stress, reduce anxiety, and help with post-traumatic stress disorder. Put your engineering skills to the test by building a sturdy, but beautiful structure. Participants will receive instruction and everything they need to build their graham cracker creation.
