Raised in the church, he learned how to infuse his swinging, classically trained style with a warm gospel sound. Chestnut leads the Cyrus Chestnut Trio, whose 2022 album My Father's Hands pays tribute to his late father, who first taught him how to play. He made his Carnegie Hall debut earlier this year.
